"Cheap & Crafty" revealed yet again

http://www.laineygossip.com/Our_CHOOPy_Europe.aspx

What is CHOOP?

CHOOP is not GOOP. CHOOP is the antithesis of GOOP.

GOOP is a night at a hotel no one can afford. GOOP is accessorising with Chopard. GOOP is using tuna steaks for tuna sandwiches. GOOP is emailing Deepak Chopra for a tea leaf interpretation whenever your daughter has a bad dream.

In other words, GOOP is what Gwynnie would do.

CHOOP on the other hand is what we did. CHOOP became our mission and we endeavoured to do Europe in the CHOOPiest way possible. CH is for Chav. CH is for Chinese. CHOOP is the ultimate low classy guide to Paris and France.

STAY
At any of the Firmdale establishments – we were at the Haymarket and then the Charlotte Street Hotel, two boutique hotels so charming and so adorable you will never want to leave. Not exactly Best Western but in London terms it’s actually not bad. Besides, you’re only getting one room and splitting it three ways, right? Because they will happily roll a cot out for you and a slumber party CHOOPy styles every night with the girls is more fun anyway.

Don’t however be fooled by the lobby Honour Bar and assume that it’ll be cheaper than the mini bar in your room just because it’s self serve. If you’re going to be honest and write down everything you take, it really starts adding up. The Honour Bar is GOOP. Tesco on the other hand is CHOOP. Soda, lemon, snackies, and Grey Goose without the shock of seeing it showing up on your bill almost 50 pounds later.

Another great feature about the Firmdales? They use Miller Harris products in perfectly sized dispensers. The ultimate in CHOOPness is to take the shampoo and the body wash for future purposes. These are the ones you won’t find at Walmart – they don’t look like Tupperware and will last until you come back. Rachel Weisz would be proud.

Don’t be afraid to spill cranberry juice, or olive juice (as Duana did our last night after busting open a container full of olives we brought home from Carluccio’s to go along with the buffalo mozzarella that has spoiled us for buffalo mozzarella forever in North America) because they’ll come up the next morning and clean the carpets.

Finally… the Haymarket and the Charlotte Street are all about the design and refreshingly enough it’s not an imitation Pottery Barn. Beautiful wallpaper, wainscoting, upholstery, distressed vanity tables, whimsical little touches like these striped pencils in the lobby: orange at the Charlotte, purple at the Haymarket.

Make it CHOOPy by grabbing a handful, like Michelle, for a similar display at home. Yes… we’re pilfering pencils now. But they let you. And they’ll look so cute in your den. And what was the ultimate objective?

Gwyneth would never.

"Cheap & Crafty" revealed again

http://www.laineygossip.com/Rachel_Weisz_on_the_cover_of_Vogue_October_2008.aspx

Michelle is in New York this minute shopping at J Crew with Rachel Weisz. They’re trying on the same cords…or something.

Michelle is texting me from the change room I think. She has a new girl crush.

I get it…but then again I don’t want to. I remind Michelle that she’s, um, weird and thrifty. Michelle ignores me. Duana chimes in on the same text, ignoring me too, and tells Michelle to try on some other items from the catalogue they were both curious about.

This is my punishment last week for not being able to join them at the Brothers Bloom screening. They went, they saw, the loved. Not typical Wes Anderson. And Rachel is sublime.

Here she is, on the cover of the new Vogue, perhaps the magazine’s best cover all year. Also attached, a few extras of Rachel during the Bloom presser at TIFF. LOVE the pantsuit.

Conveniently, Darren Aronofsky was in town for the festival too. He came into the eTalk Lounge for an interview and accepted two boxes of cookies and baby clothes.

"Cheap & Crafty" revealed

http://www.laineygossip.com/Adrien_Brody_Mark_Ruffalo_Rachel_Weisz_at_Brothers_Bloom_premiere_at_TIFF.aspx

Mark Ruffalo has like 8,000 movies in the festival this year! Seriously…he’s a busy dude. But so underrated.

By all accounts he is delightful in The Brothers Bloom which premiered last night at TIFF. Haven’t had a chance to screen it but I can’t imagine that Mark and Adrien Brody together for 2 hours will be terribly tough to endure.

Bloom also stars Rachel Weisz looking sooo lovely and sooo beautiful in a silver Herve Leger which, knowing her, was probably free. I wonder if she regifts her clothes for Christmas?

As mentioned earlier, Adrian it seems was in town forever. From Friday to at least last night, quite the stretch, not that anyone is complaining. We want Adrien Brody something fierce. He was pure sex last night in his suit, again rockin’ the bromance with his buddy Mark. The three of them – Mark’s wife, Mark, and Adrien, it seems like they’re constantly in a huddle, whispering, gossiping, bonding… it’s adorable. I want to be the fourth. Like double dates.

And if you ever want to meet him one day, if you’re wondering if he’s a snotty sh*t who wouldn’t ever speak to you, Adrien was with his publicist last night up at the roof and was approached almost incessantly by partiers wanting a piece of his hotness.

He was sweet and friendly to everyone. And best… his publicist did not tell anyone to beat it. Needless to say, that’s extremely rare.

"Cheap & Crafty" reveal

http://www.laineygossip.com/Rachel_Weisz_Definitely_Maybe_premiere_New_York.aspx

Rachel Weisz was total gorgessity last night at the premiere of Definitely, Maybe in New York. Not sure what she’s wearing but it looks so good, I don’t blame her if she wants to keep it. In fact, she probably will keep it.

Rachel is currently working on the film adaptation of The Lovely Bones. She plays Susie’s mom. The part of Susie meanwhile went to Saoirse (seer-sha) Ronan who of course is currently nominated for Atonement.

Cheap & Crafty

http://www.laineygossip.com/Cheap_and_Crafty.aspx

No shortage of classless behaviour in Hollywood and above the maybe gaybe speculation and the drug drama, it’s these stories that are the most shocking:

How can the privileged behave so poorly?

Especially someone who sounds so elegant? Whose record has been spotless and golden?

Then again, it’s always the ones you least expect.

In her case however it’s become an M.O., a trail of cheapness wherever she goes.

So you know when you stay at a hotel, if the soap and bath products happen to be on the higher end, it’s customary to ask for a few refills and take some home? This of course is standard behaviour for US…because we’re broke!

But how about a busy, working actress, married to a busy working man, both with several projects on the go – does it then become less acceptable? Almost shameful? I think so yes.

And still she does it wherever she goes – on junkets, on promotional tours, whenever she’s at a hotel, she orders up extras: extra shampoo, extra lotion, even extra bathrobes, taking EVERYTHING home… yes, even the bathrobes. The bathrobes that are washed then used again by every guest staying in that suite, she insists on bringing it all with her. Including the gifts too.

She is also not shy with special requests. Lighting fixtures, humidifiers, strollers – kinda major items you’d think would be on loan, right?

Wrong.

She packs those up with her too. The woman leaves NOTHING behind.

The question is: what does she do with it all?

Would you believe she gives it to her staff? She saves the little soaps and gels and crafts them into small baskets and presents them to the nannies and the housekeepers as bonuses!

Can you imagine? Can you imagine a Christmas gift basket full of hotel shampoos and conditioners?

I mean How.F&cking.Tacky.
